Im sure this award is legitimate or you would not have been so proud of it.
But I have seen several that are just an excuse to sell books or
memberships.

My daughter submitted a poem that she wrote, to a contest organization.
They sent back a certificate and letter saying that she had won some
catagory or another and they wanted permission to publish her poem in their
next book!  She was flattered an gave permission.  Next they sent an order
form where-by she could order copys of the book for herself; parents;
grandparents; etc. for $19.95 each copy.

The same daughter is a member of: "Who's Who among American High School
Students". They claim that she rates in the top certain percentage of High
Schoool Students in the U.S.  Each year they send her an order form to buy
their book listing all the members of "Who's Who..." so she can see her name
in the book.  I think this one is only @$10. per copy.
