I'm still very confused, and you didn't answer my questions, only some
of which i've repeated and tried to reword here:
1) What problems do you have when trying to install McAfee? Are you
perhaps trying to install it on 2 computers despite perhaps having only
one license?
2) Why are you talking about AOL? Do you want it on the notebook? Why
would you want it? If you want it, why don't you try whether you have it
on the desktop?
3) As i already explained, the Internet connection cannot cause
installation problems unless there is some registration problem, but you
didn't answer that question either.
4) Just because you're using the same modem for your wired and wireless
connection does not mean that these have the same IP address, on the
contrary. In any case, i still don't even know if you've succeeded in
downloading the installers for whatever programs you want to install.
Are you having trouble downloading programs or installing them by
doubleclicking on them after you've succeeded in downloading them?

AVG is a better program than McAfee but the free version provides only
one update per day, which is not enough nowadays. It seems you have the
pay version of AVG, which you can schedule to get many updates. AVG
finds much less malware than the free version of Avira Antivirus.
Why are you asking for help with McAfee if it's working on your desktop
and you don't want it on your notebook?

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
