There is no doubt that Spinrite has a good reputation for doing a 
thorough job. That's fine if you can leave it to work on the drive for 
24 hours (perhaps more). Scandisk is already there, and the thorough 
scan is quicker. As for deleting files it can't read, I have heard of 
this in connection with crosslinked files, but that's all (probably not 
scandisk). As to whether scandisk does this without telling you, there 
may be more on this here:
