Actually, I suspect that the actual value is irrelevant; the url
contains all necessary information for a spammer, including the email
address.

My understanding is that Microsoft does NOT involve itself in
unsolicited email of any kind; I suspect that MS has nothing to do
with the email.

Jonahan, when I see a message that says something like "(This is not
spam)", my immediate assumption is that it IS indeed spam. I get lots
of "you have won" emails, claiming that I or someone I know entered my
email address. All I can say is that there must be a small crowd of
people entering my email address at various websites, if such is true.

If you're going to click on the link, I would first create a dummy
hotmail or yahoo email address, and substitute that in the link first.
If the url is NOT legit, then it'll accept the modified url as-is, and
ditto for the code.
