I guess from all this, that there is a font file buried somewhere in a tree
that you can't remove. Since it is not in the windows fonts folder, you
will not be able to remove it using control panel - fonts. Since you can't
do anything with it, this means the system thinks it is in use so look in
your startup folder to see if anything is still there from the program you
removed. You could try starting in safe mode - you may be able to remove it
then or you could restart in dos mode then you should have no trouble
removing it. Remember, in dos mode, that you can access long file names by
truncating and adding tilde etc.
All this assumes that your question is sort of two part, and the first part
is about windows 98. The second part, about xp and partiotion magic, should
be easy to answer by checking the powerquest web site. If your version of
partition magic is compatible with xp, I'm sure it will be promoted on their
web site. Be careful if you used ntfs when you installed xp - it will make
a difference!!!
