[pchelpers] Re: Fried RAM

Yes, John, I'm always nagging my colleagues for their
carelessness in handling sensitive components! And I
did wear a anti-static wrist-strap when I opened up
the case and installed the RAM making sure I didn't
touch the traces, merely handling the edges.

I spoke to tech support at HP today and they were
surprised this could happen. Even with incompatible
RAM it would just refuse to boot or give me the
BSOD...or just keep rebooting automatically. Or just
screeches! I've seen all that but never had a RAM
fried before! Oh well, HP said to test the socket by
putting the original module into this other socket
where the new RAM was burnt to see if it's shot! And
if it is, they'll replace the system board as well as
the RAM for me. Well, that sounds good and I'll have
to do that soon. I'm still at the office right now...a
little after 8:00pm and I started work 7:30am...so I
might not do it tonight! Anyway HP told me it would be
the next working day's service.

So I hope to get this fixed soon. Thanks for your
response John.
