[pchelpers] Floppy Disk

Hello everyone!

I have a minor problem with my floppy disk drive. I was trying to make a
systems disk in case of a Windows 98SE crash. After I followed all of the
procedures as outlined by Windows 98SE, it asked me to insert a floppy disk.
The system also informed me that anything on this particular disk would be
erased and only the needed information to boot up my computer would be left
behind. I clicked on OK, the computer said it was going to format the disk.
I saw my system try to format the disk, in fact my system said "Formatting"
and when my system got to about 4-5% formatted, I got a message that said
there is not a disk in the drive, or the door has been left open, something
to that effect. I tried it again with the same result. Also if I try to use
this disk, my systems informs me that the disk is not formatted. When I try
to format the disk, I get the same results as described above. If I do a
simple format, basically erase the disk, this function appears to be working
just fine. I thought that my disk was out of alignment, it is about 8 years
old. So I purchased a new one, and again the same result. When I check
Windows concerning my floppy disk, it advises me that all is functionally
perfectly. I even reinstalled my floppy disk more than once to make sure
that the driver has not gone bad.

Sorry this email is so long. My question is this: Is it possible that
something in Windows itself has become corrupted and this prevents the
formatting of floppy disks? I tried even to format under the MSDOS prompt
with the same results. I can format my Zip disks without any problems. What
up with this? I would appreciate any help that you may provide.

Thank again.
