Sounds like you either have some problems with an extension or, if the 
problem persists in Firefox's safe mode or if you haven't installed any 
extensions or themes yet, have a corrupted profile. All you probably 
need from the old installation is your bookmarks. Try making a new profile
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_manager
and just replace bookmarks.html with the new one.

or passwords, here is the info about what files you need to transfer:

Transfer them one at a time so that you can notice when problems recur 
if they do.
