Since i didn't even know that there already was a SP2 for Vista, i
assumed you were talking about XP and simply forgot you said Vista, sorry.

Have you tried uninstalling IE8 using Control Panel\Programs and
Features? If that doesn't get rid of the system restore problem, i'd
definitely uninstall SP2.
