[pchelpers] Re: Escartis

A good question, and one that might start another discussion. To start
with, we know certain things:
1) Unless your account is in vacation mode or you are not a list member,
every post is sent to you individually.
2) Whether it arrives at its destination depends on working delivery
systems (bad system-no delivery).
3) Many ISPs and email users have rules or filters for sorting valid
email from junk.
4) Both systems are highly dependent on the rules written into them.
They may pass or fail messages based on sender, destination, subject or
certain words and phrases in the body of each message.

My ISP has these, and Thunderbird has hundreds of filters set up for it.
Most of the time they work. Sometimes the un-expected happens. A
perfectly ordinary rule/filter acts unexpectedly because either:
The message contains something it doesn't like, or the rule, although
meant for something else, is faulty or acting out of context, or is in
the wrong position in the priority tree.

Such events are likely to cause mail to be diverted to the wrong folder,
or be deleted because the message contains something the rule was not
intended to deal with. At the same time, it could contain things the
rule WAS intended for, and it acts for better or worse on that message.
That is why rule/filter systems require regular updates to keep them
working properly.
