Hi Susan,
Sunday, August 24, 2003, 12:01:14 AM, you wrote:

That's in C:\BOOT.INI. Don't delete anything; rename the items first,
then reboot and make sure of which one Windows starts up with (there
may be minor but critical differences), before you go deleting any
lines. Here's mine:
[boot loader]
timeout=5
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional"
/fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional"
/fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional
on E:" /fastdetect
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons
As you can see, there are 4 OSes listed; the first one is the active
one. The second is for C:, and doesn't work anymore (so I can take it
out), and the third one was on the original boot drive, and is also
obsolete, so I can take it out also. I could cut mine down to this:
[boot loader]
timeout=1
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional"
/fastdetect
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons
Actually, as you can see, it shows what the default entry is, so you
can just keep that one and get rid of any others, including
duplicates.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
