forgot to add:

...in other words both keep Open Office and install MS Word. There's 
nothing wrong with having more than one word processor or more than one 
browser etc. It's easy to decide which one should be the program that 
opens files by default and easy to open a file with the other one once 
in a while. Just rightclick < open with
