[pchelpers] Re: Device manager problem

The system is showing extra erroneous network protocols. There might be
some hardware problems. I'll put comments within the text.

Any situation like this could mean one or more of these no longer
operates. Shut down everything, power off. Open up and remove everything
until you are left with 1 VGA output and 1 floppy drive + keyboard and
power. Disconnect everything else from the motherboard. See if the
machine will boot from the floppy to the DOS prompt. A DOS or win98 boot
disk will do. Then begin re-connecting other hardware- leave the hard
drive until last. Check it will boot after each stage to spot any failures.

In case your system has contracted something, try jumpering the hard
drive as a slave and put it into a working machine (DON'T BOOT from the
drive). Once installed, use the working system to scan for file errors,
virus and spyware infections. Any of these are likely. Treat as
required. In this configuration you could back up any vital data to the
other system. After you are certain it is clean, re-install in the
original system (put the jumper back).

Let it re-detect its own hardware. It should clear some of these messages.

Remove all the protocols from the network settings and set it up from
scratch. These look very messed up.

They are not all needed for boot. One might be if you were booting from
a server, not otherwise. This message may also suggest some sneaky
activity going on.

Hopefully, following this approach will help you become headache free.
