[pchelpers] Device manager problem

My son told me that his cd-drive had stopped being detected in windows.
In the Device Manager I found these entries

? Nvidvia nforce2 ATA Controller ( Not enough resources to opertrate )
Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller
Standard Dual IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller
?Standard Primary IDE Hard Disk Controller ( no resources)
?Standard Secondary IDE Hard Disk Controller. ( no Resources )

On my computer with the same nForce2 chipset and XP Home I only have
Nviva nforce2 ATA Controller listed.

I can unistall everything but the Standard IDE/ESDI Controller.
There is no uninstall option for it.
I tried going to regedit and deleting all entries for a Standard IDE but all
that got me was a activation window saying because of the hardware
changes I had 3 days to activate windows.
When I try to unistall the Nvidvia controller the computer locks down.
So I'm stuck with no secondary IDE port for now.

I also found these problems

Under computer
ACPI Uniprocessor PC
Standard PC

Standard PC is not needed but once again no uninstall option

Under System devices
? Nvidia nForce2 Memory Controller (not installed)
There are 5 of these all the same.
I can click each one and say update driver, and it does
and the yellow ? marks goes away.
But on the next reboot they are back.

Under network are these listings
Direct Parallel
Nvidia nForce MCP Networking Controller- Packer Scheduler Miniport
Nvidia nForce MCP Networking Controller #2- Packer Scheduler Miniport
WAN Miniport (IP)
WAN Miniport (IP) - Packet Scheduler Miniport
WAN Miniport (L2TP)
WAN Miniport (NetBEUI, Dial in)
WAN Miniport (NetBEUI, Dial in) #2
WAN Miniport (NetBEUI, Dial out)
WAN Miniport (NetBEUI, Dial out) #2
WAN Miniport (NetBEUI, Dial out) #3
WAN Miniport (pppoe)
WAN Miniport (pptp)

What are all of these. On my computer I only have the name
of my netcard and nothing else. I can't uninstall any of these
cause it says they are all needed for boot.

I just came back today after getting a tooth pulled. And I do not
have the time for any more headaches. 8-)

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
