Make sure you read the comments too; some other great ideas there too.
On the basis of those and of what you wrote, my first question would be
what happens when you use a different mouse and keyboard? I'm no expert
on driver issues, but you may have to even uninstall them both to rule
out the possibility of a faulty driver causing your problems.
