It may be the result of file errors. How about runing basic maintainance
such as:
scandisk
SFC /SCANNOW (at the command prompt in XP)
SFC (at Start/Run for win 9x)
Also try running Startup control to disable any unnecessary programs on
re-start.
A good registry cleaner/defragmenter would not hurt. (Regclean gives a
basic clean while Registry Rescue is better)
