Go to the site of the hard drive manufacturer and download and run
their diagnostics utility.  If it reports SMART errors, then the drive
itself is bad.

As John suggests, just because the cables are on tight does not mean
that there's nothing wrong with the connection.

It's also possible to have problems with both the drive itself and
with the cable/connections.
