Have you tried the obvious, replacing the mouse and keyboard? If you
have a PS/2 mouse and PS/2 keyboard, problems with one can affect the
other sometimes. They used to be controlled on the same chip, and
sometimes they still affect each other, even though the keyboard and
mouse control are now part of the motherboard chipset.
