Look in your device manager and see if your secondary IDE channel
is X out. That what happens when I lose my 2nd IDE ports because
of a conflict.

Subject: [pchelpers] CD Drives
Today, I discovered that neither of my CD drives are working. My Computer
does not find them, DOS does not find them, yet in checking my BIOS, they are
listed.
They are also listed during boot-up. What in the world is going on?

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
