[pchelpers] Re: Bitdefender?

The site IS real and apparently legit. They simply did an extremely
poor job of indicating which is their own text and which is text from
the virus.

As for Outlook, the same applies; if you have a good anti-virus program
that's up-to-date and use common sense, you generally don't need the
pigeonhole stuff. On the other hand, the description looks good. I
just checked, and it was indeed mentioned in Lockergnome, on Friday.

If you want your computer to be completely secure, remove the phone line
or network cable, as well as the CD-ROM drive and floppy drive.

All right! All right, I got it.

I did look at the web sight and it did look like real to me. I was not
interested in their products. I am on line all the time and get
automatic updates from Norton. I should be fine.

Now I have another question. I have Windows XP and it does have a
build-in firewall. Yesterday I received the following email:

"Here is a story about a program that keeps the worms away from your
address book. It comes from a computer newsletter called " Lockergnome"
"And for those of you worried about worms, it looks as though Ben Brady
has created something just for you: "Well, I have finally gotten fed up
with all of the script kiddies and virii that are going around stealing
people's email addresses... so what did I do? I've created a new
program to take care of the problem. Secure Address Book! It uses an
encrypted database to store your email contact information so that virii
and email worms that are so prevalent on the Internet cannot steal your
contact information to propagate Now you can continue to use Outlook
Express or any other email client and keep your email and contact
information safe. Once you import your email contact information via a
.CSV file that you export from your existing address book (which you can
then empty) all you have to do to send an email to someone is simply
restore the Secure Address Book from your system tray, highlight the
contact in the browse and click on the send button. Up pops a new
message screen ready for your email content. It works with any email
client you can set up as your default email program." The name "Secure
Address Book" is suppose to be a click-able link to the website that has
the program and information about it. If the link didn't carry over,
here it is again. http://www.y2kbrady.com/firewallreporting/ Ben Brady
is the creator of the program and the owner of the website. Pc"

What do you think about the address book and the additional Firewall
software for Windows XP? Any idea?

Thank for your help.
Inge

Clarification: BitDefender is ok, but one of their examples (where they
describe the variations of K L E Z) looks like they are talking about
their own product, not K L E Z. Personally, if they're going to let
their web pages be sloppy like that, I'd avoid them on general
principles; their programming might be equally sloppy.

Ed is right; if you already have a good antivirus program that is up tto
date, and use some common sense, you don't need to worry about other
programs. Sadly, many people lack both updated antivirus software and
common sense, and are thus a burden and danger to everyone else.
