Hello,
If that little laptop is compatible with Linux, I would recommend
installing Ubuntu Linux on it as it is easy to use, and has many
powerful capabilities. A Linux system is very hard to get a virus on as
there just aren't that many written for Linux and the way you install
software is different.
You for the most part in Ubuntu don't surf websites and download
programs and install them, instead there are central "repositories" for
your flavor of Linux which are accessed via a "package manager". You
start your package manager, browse and select the software you want to
install, mark each package for installation, and when you are done
selecting packages you click the apply button and all of the software
you selected is downloaded and installed automatically.
These central repositories are virus free so you are always safe
installing from them.
As an added bonus you can install Compiz on Ubuntu and have four virtual
desktops which are available via a rotating cube interface as in the
following videos about Beryl, which is derived from Compiz.

You can't get that in Windoze!!!

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
