Appreciate all your responses Scott. Part of the problem is the
learning curve on Vista.
The other problem was that I was using Word Perfect Version 11 which
apparently
cannot handle saving files on Vista. It appears to work if the file is
already build and all
you are doing is making modifications. Then it will save OK. But if you
are building a new file
it just will not save or file it into any folder. Will have to start
using Open Office. Also the old
version of Word 2000 seems to work Ok and it will open WP files. Hate
to give up Word
Perfect but that's life.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
