 From what I have read and from personal experience the problem may not 
be caused by the network or its settings. The number one cause of 
problems is the health of windows operating system and the disk it runs 
on. Without dealing with these issues there is no basis for tinkering 
with network settings. If you have Spinrite, please use it to check and 
repair the partition and file records. After that repair windows files 
including registry. Only after all that can you say for sure "I have a 
network problem".

After dealing with people who never did any maintainance and the 
dramatic results achieved from doing some, this has to be considered 
first. To be specific, this is concerned with the physical condition of 
file records on your partition. Without this you have a ship with holes 
in it.
