You may be asking the wrong question.
Has the friend tried using the compatibility mode settings to see if
they help with the program? There's a Win98 option available.
If that doesn't work, or works partially, there's an Application
Compatibility Toolkit available from somewhere on the MS website that
can be used to fine-tune the exact patch needed for the program --
assuming that a patch has already been written that addresses the
problem that the program has.
Lastly, check with the program vendor to see if they have any ideas.
They may say that they don't support it under XP, but, if they're
still in business, chances are that they've at least tried to make it
work.
