Went to the HELP in XP Professional and typed in the word Update in the
search box. This is what came up.

Good Luck,

Lori

To turn on automatic updates
Open System in Control Panel.
On the Automatic Updates tab, click either of the first two settings.
 Notes

To open System, click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and
Maintenance, and then click System.
To turn off automatic updates for your computer, select Turn off automatic
updating; I want to update my computer manually.
If you choose not to use automatic updating, you can always install specific
updates from the Windows Update Web site. Open Windows Update in Help and
Support Center.

I have been looking for where to turn the automatic updater off at and no
luck yet. I know I just stumbled over it a few weeks ago. Would somebody
mind refreshing my memory I'm running XP home edition. Don't really like it
as well as 98 but I will say crashes are pretty much a thing of the past. It
just doesnt seem to give you near as much control and I use to like going
into the depths of my computer and snooping around on those boring rainy
nites here in Northern Ca. Thanks for the help in advance, DanT

That's interesting. This person calls me everytime anything different
occurs, to ask how to handle it. Computers intimidate her but some years
ago I convinced her to take her business online and it is flourishing so she
does what she has to on them. I haven't figured out how the auto updater
got turned on in the first place yet either.
