I agree, I am quite sure you don't need it and it could possible be malware
of some sort.

Thanks for the help.
I don't fully understand the context in which the subject file is mentioned
in your Google find; however, it certainly looks like something I should get
rid of.
The "gist" of the google reference is remeniscent of notices I've seen about
people who get paid for web-page "hits" via "scumware" they install on other
peoples computers.
