When you reboot hit F8 [ I think it is F8, no time to reboot and try at the
moment] you should get a list of options in WinXP - one of them is repair ,
if memory serves me well.

TTFN – Vic

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and
the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find
the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy
child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life
has breathed easier because you have lived.

you have the explore which opens up a directory of your folders and files..
then you have the explorer that is your browser ie6.
I use to use the f-prot a long time back...
without your winXP cd it is next to impossible to fix anything..
you could try to install it and have it go into the c:\windows\system32
folder to look for files and folders instead of the cd...
when you click on the repair have it look there..Don't know if it will help
or not..
By all means find your xp cd...
