I think I would try and run it from one of their sites or you can try the
other way also. Whatever works. :>)

Hey Trapper,

How about this; I use Opera to go to Microsoft site and download IE6 (the
whole program) and then install here on the hard drive. Would that fix my
Windows?

ok now that you recognize that you have been told...pass the offering plate
and don't take out any change...ha!

Carl that is a major issue with MS, and why they are always in court. They
claim that IE is part of windows...They claim it..not me...as such it can't
be separated out..thus the quarrels with Netscape...Proprietary and all
that..
the things you mention are all part of winXP..they are modular as far as I
know..
I think the ie6setup would have required you to go to the internet to finish
the dl and then have the original cd..not sure on the last part..
the ie6setup file was a dl on the internet..doesn't tale long to "DL". it is
not the whole enchilada...only accesses you to the site to get the rest..
Been awhile, but I think I got that part right..
Opera has nothing to do with ie6 so it of course would not try to fix it..I
am willing to bet you they would rather the ie6 stay broke..
I don't know why you can' do your "DL" from certain sites..
Guessing here, but perhaps they have a contract with MS...
I used Opera a long time ago..Back when I use to use Netscape. Think AOL
bought them out..Hate AOL!
I will look to see if I still have a copy of my opera about..Only take me a
second to find out..ha!

You mentioned doing online banking...doesn't that scare the tar out of
you???? I don't know about you but it took me forever to get my money in the
bank and I don't want to see Iraq take all my $1.36 out and pay for a big
mac...:-). To easy to rip off..Just ask a buddy of mine who lost 1000's.
Still in litigation. A fancy lawyer term meaning they are fighting over it
and trying to get out of their responsibilities. I recall a short while back
there was a Lady on here who had troubles with a employers deposit for
parole..Forgot how that story went..but it was a nightmare for her..So those
electronic things still spook me.

Hi Preacher, uh I mean Trapper,

Yes you told me. :-(
Yes I need to keep up with my cd's.
Yes you done told me about Opera.

Here's my concern about IE6. I'm running Windows xp and I'm told that
Internet Explorer is part of Windows. I don't believe that. If so, why
do my other Microsoft software work ok; such as Outlook Express. Why?
And if IE6 is necessary for Windows Explorer, and I don't fix it (find my cd
and reinstall), how long will my computer last before the big bang.

Carl

No Carl I have never ever lost a cd or a floppie disk or a zip disk..Not
only that I can tell you exactly where every single disk is and what is on
each and every disk. If I loose a file or something gets crunched I can find
it and have it in seconds...I catalog everything. I believe I spent some
time with you awhile back on this matter.
A lesson I learned way back at day one..
I don't mean for this to sound like it does...I am not angry or anything
like that..A bit perplexed perhaps, but really glad to know your working
your way thru and finding the answers.
I am so glad to hear you found another system to browse with..Glad to hear
Pam was of help. But I also must say that it is not like that is the first
time it was ever mentioned. As I said in prior a prior msg..I have told you
all repeatedly that there was lots of things out there better than MS and
IE..Even DOS was better and definitely Linux. I mentioned opera several
times...! It has been about for awhile now..
The important thing is that you found it...I see no reason now for you to
want to go back to IE, unless your into WebPages and need to see what others
might be seeing with their browser.

Hi Trapper,
So you've never lost a cd. :-)
I have hundreds and I throw them all in one big box in my homeoffice. I
must admit I have some cd's in the wrong jackets so I have one big job to
check each one until I find my.

Hey, look at the bright side. If I had not had my problem with IE6, Pam
would not have offer Opera. Thanks again Pam.

After I run the anti-virus programs on the websites, I will see if Opera
fixed IE6. :-)

Hey, it aint a nightmare. It's an adventure. I'm learning......... lots
of stuff, like Opera has it's own built in "refuse pop-up windows". Isn't
that great.

Carl

I am trying to figure that one out too...I am thinking when he ran that
program it nuked more than one folder and inf. from his computer..
Not being there it is hard to figure out what it is ...If he had his Cd he
could end the nightmare and just re-install...No offense to anyone but I am
amazed that folks loose there cd's. I can understand a cd from aunt Suzy
with kids games or something..but the major cd carrying the computers
guts...???? I hope people after this will catalog their files and folders a
bit closer and keep a tighter watch on things...Them things aren't cheap
either...

There is a folder I386 on the XP cd and that is the file you need, it is
like what you know of as cabs for the older windows. I copy this to the
partition I install the OS to so it is available.
What is wierd is that Carl indicated he is having problems with both
explore.exe (windows explorer) and iexplorer.exe (internet).
