Hey Bill;
Went thru the blue ridge mtns. last year...Forgot we had done that
trip...thanks for reminding me...
We started at the very beginning of the trail and went to its very end. We were
on our way from DC to Fla. and wanted to stay off the freeways as much as
possible.

  Hi Carl and Eric,

  I attempted to make Fred Langa's bootable CD of XP, patched with SP2. About
every other step would hang on me with some message or other. I figured out a
few workarounds but finally gave up on it. It sounded like a good idea, I just
couldn't get it to work on my computer.

  And yes, Eric, its a beautiful world we live in. After Hurricanes Frances
and Ivan blew thru here to clear the air, you should see the views from the
Blue Ridge Parkway in the mountains of North Carolina and Virginia.

  Bill (not that one, another one)

    Hi Carl,

    When Bill kindly sent me a new CD containing SP2, it took me just 20
minutes to install on each of four computers, and it installed perfectly, no
problems encountered. The closest thing to a problem was a "false" error
message from Nero 6 stating it does not recognise the OS and cannot work. But I
ignored the message and went ahead and Nero burned a data CD for me perfectly!
I have since downloaded the latest Nero 6, which no longer has the false error
report.

    Guess what - it's Spring here, the grass is green, the trees are budding,
the birds are singing... we did have a cold day on Sunday but it has warmed up
again - what a beautiful world we live in!!

      Step 14 will get you. Funny, this man Fred Langa says to make your
own boot cd for Windows xp SP2 and it'll save an hour of time when you need to
reinstall SP2; but it'll take 2 days to make. And for lay people like me
that does not know that much about software, we'll make a mistake along the way
and the darn cd will not work when needed. To make that cd one has to delete
a file and then add it back from a different source.   I can just see it now;
my system crashed and I restore the system back to factory settings and then
update it with this new type bootable cd and ............... opps, it doesn't
work. Now what. I've wasted 2 days making a useless cd.
