A few months ago the weather stations indicated el nino was over and we were
going to have a la nina with clouds and cold in the north and east and dry
conditions in the south and west
Now they are saying el nino was stonger than first anticipated and the la nina
was weaker than anticipated. Seems like they are abandoning their sofisticated
computer models and going back to the old reliable Indian weather stone! Sam

It turns out that we aren’t the only ones that feel the weather has been weird
lately. This is something of a global phenomenon primarily due to the buildup
in pollutants in the atmosphere. Locally we can expect more cloudy weather
than normal on a long-term basis. “One study published recently in Nature
Climate Change predicted more extreme-rainfall events as a result of the
projected warming. The researchers predicted that extreme precipitation will
increase by 1 to 2 percent every decade in dry regions like the Southwest,
based on 60 years of measurements from 11,000 weather stations throughout the
world.
The weather we are getting over the past couple of months is due to a greater
than normal El Nino, which has also lasted longer than normal. This coupled
with a strong Arctic oscillation has resulted in us being wetter than normal
and the arctic warmer than normal. At one point last month the arctic was
recording temperatures above freezing.

Does anyone have an idea of why we are getting so much rain and so many clouds?
How long will it last?

Don’t feel bad Earl. I ordered two things last week and they just arrived.
Maybe my order and yours will cancel things out.

Since it has been cloudy for so long, I decided to order some astronomy toys to
give the clouds reason to be here. I hope it doesn't mean six more weeks of
dreary days. Seems like I'm back in the Midwest.
