I think I see it differently. It did not "make it"
into the news, it was leaked. And apparently Selig
feels that this was a leak of proprietary corporate
information. Selig is not restricting the news. He's
keeping a leash on his company. He is not denying the
press the right to speak freely. Corporations have the
right to run in any fashion that is within the law.
And I think this includes manipulating PR. It may be
sleazy and very undemocratic, but MLB is a business.
If you want it any other way, you would need to
de-privatize baseball, perhaps run it like the USPS.

Despite being a rather compelling series, the ratings
are in the dumper for the Fall Classic. Selig and MLB
are doing all they can to throw a brighter light on
the World Series. This stuff about the Yankees being
leaked works against that goal, at least we suppose
that is Selig's thinking. If the information was
leaked inappropriately, or against MLB policy, Selig
is within his rights to squelch that corporate
behavior.

Remember that free enterprise is as important as free
speech.

Here we can agree. I'm not saying Selig is a great
guy, he just has a right to run his business.

Again, we agree.
