    You asked.

After a *great* deal of soul-searching, I sucked it up and went to
see ST X: Attack Of The Clone last weekend.

The last thing I have is time to bullshit about a mediocre Star
Trek movie, so this will be brief.

-It's not awful. The first reel is actually quite strong, but then
things run out of gas. Quickly.

-It's a little depressing how slavishly this movie wants to be
Khan. Attack Of The Clone is right. This very self-consciously echoing
is problematic as the difference in quality between Nemesis and Star
Trek II is roughly the difference between Nemesis and Star Trek V.

-Good God that was one long space battle. Granted, it had some
nice beats, but it was also crammed with empty gestures, narrative
blind alleys, incomprehensible tactics, and tension killing
hugger-mugger. Worse, it then inexplicably brings the proceedings to a
*dead* halt right in the middle of the action for one last incredibly
dry, talky scene between Picard and his clone. Despite some pretty
effects and strong moments (Goldsmith's score helps here), this
doesn't come close to the slam-bang climax of The Undiscovered
Country, let alone the impeccably structured, escalating emotional
wringer of Khan. Bright side: After fifteen some years, Deanna Troi
finally does something useful.

-Has it really been that long? Yes. Don't believe me, go see the
movie. Frakes is well on his way to James Doohan-hood.A Star Trek cast
has not looked this old and tired since.... Star Trek V. All except
Gates McFadden. She alone looks like she hasn't aged a day since the
show went off the air. Either her personal trainer or her plastic
surgeon deserves a big bonus.

-This thing was originally *three fricking hours* long!!? I'll
tell you what, Attack Of The Clone could still use some liberal
pruning. At least one amazingly lame, completely extraneous fist-fight
needs to go real bad.

-That's it? You kill him off and *that's* it? Almost as botched as
"It's been fun," but not quite.

    -2, 3, 4, 8, 6, 1, 10, 7, 9, 5.

    -Ted
