[oxfordgamers] Re: Continuing my non-origin idea

And, unfortunately, you also probably described something that would
fall even flatter than the current Hulk movie. Not because it is a bad
idea, but because it requires more from both the audience and the
production staff.
To have the audience form some sort of connection to Hulk/Banner, they
need to be able to find something to identify with. That is possible in
the outline you gave, but only if the audience is willing to just give in
and go with it for the first half or so of the movie. Since the standard
fare audience isn't asked to hold on this long very often, they will
probably not be happy about this. Look at the times this is tried with
other movies and the way they tend to be lambasted by critics and failures
at the box office.
The other part of what it needs is even harder to find. Good work at the
acting, Character Animation effects, cinematography and pacing. Basically,
the way to keep the audience in it long enough to form a bond is to not
give them the chance to ask themselves "Where did this guy come from, and
why should I care?" very much. They need to get caught up in the flow of
events and feel as though there is no choice but for things to go as they
are for right now. Given the run of the actors in supers movies (and
directors and all the rest), this would be a surprise to see done well.
Usually, what you get are some close up scowls and a few more explosions.
The X-Men movie is one that doesn't give all the origins, but it gives
the origins of most of the main characters. In terms of the movie, the
main characters were Magneto, Rogue and Wolverine. You see Magneto and
Rogue directly, and you are told that Wolverine's origin is a mystery,
even to him. Sure, they don't give origins for the secondary characters,
but they are secondary. You are intended to identify with the big three. I
haven't seen X2, so I don't know in that film, but as a sequel it can move
the focus some and use the bits of establishment that were provided in the
first movie as the connection. You can't do it with everyone, but you can
do it with some of them.

Of Treason

Treason doth never prosper; what's the reason?
For if it prosper, none dare call it treason.
