Alex was being super cautious so as not to throw fuel onto a fire with the AOS 
Board during negotiations.  

The AOS does *not* own copyright to your photos.  They have re-iterated that 
time and again, often in the argument against OrchidWiz and others.  They did 
not use outside copyrighted photos in my article in 'Orchids' in favor of award 
photos that they could freely reprint as is their right under the award 
agreement with you and other photographers.  

HOWEVER....  Just as Greg Allikas and others can publish award photos in books, 
you as copyright *owner* have the right to license and publish outside the AOS. 
 If you give license and permission to Alex, photobucket, YouTube, or me to 
print your pix, that is your right as copyright *owner*.  

I can't blame Alex, hopefully the AOS will elect a new board that will be more 
reasonable.  Just think of talking to your neighbor about his overgrown yard, 
you don't tell the cops you saw his kid smoking pot, you use that as a 
bargaining chip and stay silent.  Or at least I did, and he did clean the yard 
of dead cars and other debris, LOL!!!
