Hi Steve,
Were you putting the pollen back on a flower that had its own pollen removed,
or putting it on an intact flower? I had pretty good results selfing my O.
roseovariegata a couple of years ago. I'm not certain, but I suspect that I
put the pollen back on intact flowers. Perhaps that would keep the flower from
wilting while the transferred pollen does its stuff.
Or, perhaps I just got lucky with an individual plant that isn't
self-incompatible. I've had spotty results with the related Eulophias. My E.
keithii self pollinates with abandon, but selfing my E. petersii results in big
fat capsules that do not contain any viable seed.
