Gareth wrote about some problems with possible orders from Hoosier's
at this time.
I think the real problem is that there was plenty of time for
single purchasers to buy plants from them in the past, but since
reportedly not enough people did they need to clean house and move
on. That traditionally is done by orchid vendors by selling things in
big blocks or all at once. Once someone decides that they don't want
to do something anymore (or can't), it's likely the last thing they
want to do is let things trickle on for a while which could happen by
continuing single sales while they are trying to get things over
with. Of course, their collection plants weren't available to buy
singly, just their sales plants. Maybe instead of making a
point-by-point list of reasons why you might be disgruntled by their
trying to make sure they don't lose more money while trying to
liquidate their inventory, you could find a more positive thing to do
like search around for someone who already is going to be buying lots
of plants from them and ask if they will let you include your small
order with their larger one. Helps out the community spirit and gets
the blood pumping being part of a large purchase, but not actually
having to buy all of those plants. I have heard of people who are
going to buy things from them, and maybe they don't want to deal with
someone with a small purchase. I say this respectfully since if I had
money and space available I'd probably be more interested in getting
something from them or with someone else, and something positive is
more likely to happen by asking to take part in a larger order; I'm
almost positive that very few people would offer to let you join them
in a large group purchase after your very public rant or gripe about
Hoosiers, as they would likely be worried that down the line you
might be likely to do the same towards them if things don't all go as
smoothly as you would like with them.
good luck,
charles
