Jeffrey,
Check metalink note 73431.1 for a compatibility matrix showing the target db,
rman executable, catalog db and catalog schema.
Starting from 9.2.0, your rman executable can range between 9.0.1.3 and <=
target db, before 9.2.0, the rman executable had to match the target db version.

I notice that a lower client version of RMAN can be used against a database.
For example, RMAN 9i can be used against a 10g database. However, is it
recommended that the RMAN and database version match?
