uninstall oracle home

Hi All,
 
On solaris when I have to remove the home, it is recommeneded to uninstall the 
software using OUI and remove the home (rm -rf *)
 
what exactly teh uninstall will do ?
(why it wont remove all the files from home)
 
 
 
And also what the relink process will do ?
(  make -f .....)
is there any thumb rule to remember this make commands. ITs some kinda 
confusing for me )
