My advice, based on practical experience, TURN IT OFF! (it = ASMM) I can dig up some metalink notes if you like. If I recall, I even posted a few notes here on the oracle-l list, and folks followed-up with their own thoughts. But save yourself the trouble and just turn it off. Hi! from time to time one of our production servers experience ORA-04031 (lack of memory in SGA). today it happens to PMON, so the instance went down. The software is 10gR2 with enabled ASMM. We suppose ASMM is responsible for such behaviour (from our point of view the instance and the system it runs on has enough memory in disposition) - in our opinion it would do better on instances with less turbulent workload (it is OLTP connected with some internet apps). I would like to hear from You if You have similar/opposite experience with this feature.
