Ryan, In 8.1.7.4.1, with optimizer_mode =3D FIRST_ROWS, no stats on sys = objects, Forms 4.5 and JVM installed (ie lots of objects & lots of synonyms) we had significant performance = problems due to synonyms because of the time taken querying the DD to = resolve them. See http://www.mail-archive.com/oracle-l@xxxxxxxxxxx/msg28034.html So in the past you could get performance problems with a single user. This may not be relevant with more recent versions, but you didn't = mention what version (or what optimizer_mode). HTH, Bruce Reardon -----Original Message----- From: Bobak, Mark Sent: Wednesday, 15 September 2004 6:51 AM Ryan, It's been a while since I've read the article, but, if I recall=3D20 correctly, the major points were: 1.) Increased library cache consumption w/ pub. syns., particularly with a large number of users. 2.) Additional latching and/or serialization due to lots of pub. syns. Both the above points are not the type of thing you'd notice in a single user test or small-scale test. These are the types of things that come up on large systems, when it comes to scalability limits. -Mark __________________________________________________________________ NOTICE =20 This e-mail and any attachments are private and confidential and=20 may contain privileged information. =20 If you are not an authorised recipient, the copying or distribution=20 of this e-mail and any attachments is prohibited and you must not=20 read, print or act in reliance on this e-mail or attachments. =20 This notice should not be removed. __________________________________________________________________ -- //www.freelists.org/webpage/oracle-l
