1. Along with never using rm *.*, make sure you've got good backups of your directories. 2. Either handle database backups yourself and work very closely with your SA's. 3. Resource limits for ad hoc users in production databases. 4. Don't allow SA's delete anything that belongs to the oracle user. 5. Don't let OS consultants tell you how you should set up your database. 6. Monitor things yourself, don't rely on your SA's. 7. Know how to use the command line just in case you can't get EM (or another tool) to respond in a timely manner. 8. Don't expect Oracle Support to have all the answers to your problems/questions at their fingertips. 9. Test restores of databases, archivelogs and the os directories. 10. Don't accept excuses like "We've always done it this way." It may be the right way, it may not. Research, test, test again. -- Sandy Transzap, Inc.
