RE: kernel Upgrade: Oracle 9iR2, RHEL3, and kernel version (max)?

Thanks Ron I will educate myself more on "hugemem" kernel, but I'm not ever
sure we will use it...my SA just brought it up in email.

I'm good on the OCFS stuff it is rather clear what will and will not work down
to the kernel version.
Example; "OCFS driver for the SMP kernel, version 2.4.21-4.EL and higher"

I found the original doc, but it is of no help.

Chris,

We are running RH ES 3.0 in production right now:

2.4.21-32.0.1.ELsmp

Oracle support does not (at least for Linux) supply supported kernel
versions (I believe they used to do this with Solaris, but I am not
quite sure on that one).

Do not OCFS, so I cannot help there.

Found this post on RH's bugzilla that talks a little about the hugemem
and smp kernel models. You might want to take it from there. Also, I
saw during this search, quite a few hits that refer to security issues
with hugemem that you might also want to investigate.

Oracle 9205 RAC
RHEL3ES

We have; 2.4.21-4.ELsmp and want/need to upgrade to 2.4.21-15; "15".
OK Metalink says;
     Requirements for Installing Oracle 9iR2 on RHEL3
     ...
     * Linux kernel version would be 2.4.21-4.EL
But no mention of "maximum" (minimum is implied).

I have looked in my own notes/docs, more on Metalink and further on OTN,
but nothing on "maximum kernel for Oracle 9iR2".
(I do not have the original installation guide...looking for it now).

Also I run OCFS and appears under the current OCFS version we max out
on/for kernel "2.4.21-15"...so we will not go higher (right now).

Finally, what makes the "Hugmem kernel" different than "SMP kernel" and
should I care?
Only ever run "Uniprocessor" and "SMP" kernels.

Thanks,

PS
<OTN COMPLAINT>
Anyone notice how OTN is full off 10g help/docs but seems to have left
all 9i DBA's in the cold!
Would be nice to be able to reference without upgrading.
