Ok, my RMAN skills are very very very waek, but I think if you gzip the
dump files you are ok, unless someone does a resync of the catalogue
(excue technical terms - which may be wrong) as I beleive that the (now)
missing dumpfiles will be removed (or marked obsolete) from the
catalogue.
Might be something to bear in mind.

Gzip should not hurt anything. The same holds for gunzip. Confirm
yourself by testing it.
