Instead of Unix doing CIFS you could have Windows doing NFS and have a
Microsoft solution with their Services for Unix (SFU).

I haven't used it myself since I think open source support is superior
to Microsoft support, but their documents say it would work.

And I won't shoot the messenger, sounds like the company is perfectly
capable of shooting themselves.
