I remember the day when we had everything on The Server, because that's all
we had. That was the beauty of VMS with it's abstraction layer of logicals.
One would put Oracle files in one of a string of device/directory
structures and refer to their collective locations with the singular logical
"ORACLE_DATA" (or whatever). The devices were (in my case) often shared
with every other piece of software on The Server -- hey, we spent $25K on
that 456MB RA81 Winchester disk and we'll use every last byte!

It's probably a good thing that I hadn't used Unix back then. It would've
driven me crazy. (crazier?)

I love getting answers from the source -- it takes all of the guesswork. :)
 Thanks Cary!

Rich
