The best way to check is to query v$version. The banners are not always

Subject: Re: Which Oracle Edition am I running

I've found the answer in the trace files in the udump/bdump directories

OLD database
Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.0.0 - Production

New Database
Oracle8i Release 8.1.7.0.0 - Production

Better go check all our other databases then :-)

Thanks for suggestions.

Neil
