We know accurately only when we know little; with knowledge doubt enters.
Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is an absurd one.
Voltaire

And the capstone quote of the day signifying my "who gives a s***t about
what the mass of corporate idiots think about pretty much anything:

To be nobody but myself in a world which is doing its best, night and day,
to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human
being can fight and never stop fighting.

EE Cummings

Personally, I would rather stab myself to death with a rusty ballpoint pen
(any color ink) than earn the respect of those mindless Stepford
vending-machine/PowerPoint gluttons in Fortune 500 IT departments all across
this great SUV land...whose last technical innovation was the silent office
chair fart and the circa 1979 technical phrase "pretty slick."

If you are an expert at Marketing then advertise yourself as a super duper
Oracle expert and please make sure you tell me about that next $300/hr gig
so I can have a good laugh, too. I truly enjoy reading about that next IT
fleecing at the expense of the IT Manager who almost completed his BS in
Home Economics before the SEC raided the Jamaican correspondence school.

In contrast, anyone who really gives a win-one-for-the-Gipper f***k wouldn't
spend too much time pondering the semantics (although I did almost major in
Journalism). On the other hand, researchers have recently discovered the
male period.

"Gee, Dad, I just don't think I am going to make varsity cheerleading this
year. Do you think I am good enough, I mean, am I really varsity Oracle male
cheerleader material?"

"Listen, Beaver, if you are varsity Oracle male cheerleader material then
Larry and your good, golly jeepers peers will let you know Beav. Just make
sure to wear your Oracle 'spankies' under that red 'Powered by Oracle' skirt
and show your team spirit, son."

"Gee, Dad, thanks. You sure are swell."

By the way, just so everyone knows, I am working on two new book titles for
the coming year:

"Dear God, It's Me Margaret, Am I an Oracle Expert?"

"Chicken Soup for the Troubled Oracle Expert."

Ellis

Gosh, I hope its not too late to write my comments,

Juan, basically, sometimes you study and prepare many years so you can =
write (somewhere next to your name) that you are an expert, but you =
know.. when you become an expert you'll realize that is unnecessary =
writing it for the others to notice.. they already knew it..=20

Someone said this:

"The true test of character is not how much we know how to do, but how =
we behave when we don't know what to do".

I find that my best answer is, "I don't know, yet, but I will." I
don't have the answer at my fingertips but I do know where in the
documentation to look for them (and which mail list to ask if the
documentation doesn't have the answer).

I would guess that being seen as an Oracle expert consists of having
made all the big mistakes somewhere else and not repeating them on
this job.

BTW - I just found out that if you have a Java app querrying your
database and you have lazy Java programmers then you'd better use
US7ASCII as your character set.
