If TDE is used only at the table level and not at the Tablespace level you
might look to see how many tables use TDE and how large they are to determine
if exporting a limited set of TDE in use tables, dropping the tables, using
Transportable tablespace, then importing the TDE tables might be an option.
- -
If TDE is at the tablespace level but only one some tablespaces then
distributed SQL or Golden Gate (extra-cost) might be an option for moving some
of the data especially if some of the data is historic and not subject to
change so it can be copied early.
- -
But export/import can be speeded clock time wise up by running multiple
concurrent export/import streams, building indexes manually, and a few other
DBA preparation work intensive approaches. Good luck if you have to go this
route.

Hi Mark,
Thanks, I found it. Now I am trying to convince the customer to turn off TDE
and decrypt stuff before the migration. I believe that the only alternative is
expdp/imdp, but would try to avoid that at all costs, because it will take a
few minutes with 7TB database.

I have a client who would like to have several databases moved from 11.2.0.4
on Solaris to 12.1.0.2 on Linux. There was nothing problematic in the task
until I discovered that the source databases are using TDE (transparent data
encryption). The tablespaces containing data are all encrypted. I have never
worked with TDE before and I am not sure that transportable tablespaces are
even an option here. Does anyone have any documentation or experience with
this? I would be deeply grateful for any help.
TIA
