Our sysadmin had found the white paper on ODM yesterday and already plans
to use it.  He says that if you're ever in Alaska, feel free to stop by -
we'll even put you up for a night (might be a cabin with no H2O or power,
though :-)

You are correct in assuming that you do not need to install Oracle CRS as part 
of your target stack. If you were to deploy Oracle RAC (releases 10g and 
later), then at that time you would need to install CRS.
