When using the flashback recovery area as location for the archivelogs, you can
set the rman "archivelog deletion policy" configuration to "applied on standby".
If the flashback area is then under space pressure, it will start deleting the
archivelogs that are already applied.
In 10g (at least until 10.2.0.4, don't know if it is fixed in 10.2.0.5) there
is however a bug with configuration. The workaround for this is to set the
"_log_deletion_policy" parameter to 'ALL'.
MOS note: Configure RMAN to purge archivelogs after applied on standby [ID
728053.1], has a step by step guide of how to implement this.

Nevermind. I think I figured it out. You have to setup an RMAN job on the
standby site and backup the archivelogs, right? I tried connecting the standby
to a RMAN catalog, but that doesn't work, so you have to use RMAN without a
catalog.

Subject: Standby Database Archivelogs Backup/Removal?
Ok, so I have a physical standby database that I'm transferring logs to via
LGWR. How do I remove the logs at the standby site after they've been applied?
I was under the impression that when I backed up the files on the primary, the
archivelogs would be removed from the standby - THINKING that through, I
realized that didn't make any sense after my remote archivelog destination
filled up. Doh.
Thanks!
